Social Studies/Technology: Focus on Canada

5th Grade Students completed a unit on Canada and used the program Pages to create a fictional newsletter where Canada and the United States form one country.

At the end of the unit, they posted a reflection to the Class Blog.

In this unit:

1) Students generated questions about Canada.

2) Students worked in groups to answer the questions using key words and the Google search engine to find appropriate web
sites.

3) Students used gathered information about Canada and applied it to answering inference and other test sophistication
questions.

4) Students used gathered knowledge about Canada and synthesized it with knowledge they already had about the United States
to create a fictional Pages newsletter about how the United States and Canada decided to unite as one country.

5) At the end of the unit, students wrote a reflection and posted it to the class blog.

5th grade students studied the First Inhabitants of the Western Hemisphere. They wrote personal narratives in the voice of a first inhabitant and created podcasts of their stories using Garage Band and iMovie.



Students used iMovie to record a rap they wrote at the end of a mystery unit in their class with Ms. Chavarria.

4th grade students summarized what they learned in a unit about early New York State by learning and recording a New York History song using the program Garage Band:




1st grade students recorded the song Our Family Comes From Round The World using Garage Band .
